2017 Finishes

First finish of the year….Sushi.  Jan 10, 2017.  60″x40″.  Based upon Score 9 from Sherri Lynn Wood’s book Improv Handbook for Modern Quilters.

Next finish  (mid-January) is this Comfort Quilt for a friend of mine who is fighting a medical battle from HELL.  I made 50 blocks from The Splendid Sampler program and then lost interest.  It was nice to have those blocks when it was time to quickly get a quilt made.  I did walking foot quilting in gently curved cross-hatching.  Between the top and the back, I have used up nearly all my batik collection – only a bag of scraps left.

And a quick and easy finish (late January) is this cot quilt.  It was made out of 9 patch blocks from an online exchange (note to self – don’t do THAT again!).  I sub-cut them into disappearing 9 patches.  I had a piece of fleece and used that for the back.  Tied it with Pearl Cotton 8.  It will be put in a ‘grandma’ basket.  First time grandmother.  I’m not sure I am a supporter of showers for grandmas but I went with the flow and made it.

FB 2017Score2 Challenge piece.  This image is actually up-side-down.  Pieced border should be on the bottom and right.

Another FB Improv Challenge – 2017Score1.  We were to use a fabric we didn’t like (the pink tablecloth background) and then use a deconstructed New York Beauty block.  Mine symbolizes Lady Liberty crying because of the petulant, overgrown orange man-child that was elected president of the USA.

  • Who am I?

Who am I and what am I doing? Both good questions. But seriously - does it matter?

I'm a middle-aged woman who has been sewing, quilting and crafting since I was 10.

Following someone else's pattern is sometimes enough and totally enjoyable. But other times I find it lacking, as it doesn't feed me emotionally or spiritually.

I'm trying to color outside the lines - some days I have more success than others. Fear of sucking holds me back.

This blog helps me see where I've been and hopefully will lead me to continued creatively.

Bottom line - I quilt because I love to quilt. I am in my happy place when sewing.

    Welcome.
