While at the local show a couple weeks back, we were sitting watching the kiddo’s dressage event. At one point, I say to Mr. W – “Quick! Take a picture of that horse!”. He looked at me quizzically but immediately LEAPT up and followed my request. After settling back down – he says to me “why?”. My reply? “Painted quilt back for my liberated hexagon quilt.” He just nods and goes back to watching the horse show. There’s nothing not to love about my Mr. W!
My painted fabric doesn’t look EXACTLY like the horse that inspired it – but I’m lovin’ it. I used watered down liquid acrylic paint and rock salt on white Moda Bella fabric. After painting it and sprinkling salt on it, I let it sit in the sun for the afternoon. Next steps are to heat and steam set it (with the iron) and then wash it in hot water. The fabric gets a little stiff with the acrylic paint but it softens a little upon washing a time or two.
Here are a few photos. The first 2 close-ups are shot outside with the salt crystals still adhered. The 2nd two close-ups are after pressing.
