Yes….you read that correctly. A Red Bellied Black snake in our TV room. Here’s some data on this particular snake if you’re interested…HERE and HERE. And here’s an excerpt just to whet your knowledge appetite! “For its size, the Red-Bellied Black Snake is probably the least dangerous elapid snake in Australia. Despite the number of bites received every year, very few human deaths have resulted….”
We have had 3 days of snake invasion.
Day one, a LARGE one (we’re talking 5-6 foot long) in the front vineyard.
Day two, a small one in Mr. W’s boot at the back door.
Day three, A FRICKIN’ snake in the TV room! Mr. W was taking his afternoon siesta on the couch in front of the TV when something caught his attention…..it was a snake coming out from behind the bookshelf. It wasn’t HUGE (I say 3 feet long – Mr. W says 2 feet long) but it was big enough. With some rapid scurrying about – it was caught and relocated.
Today…..we did maintenance as we think the TV room addition has separated from the foundation and left gaps which is where the snake could have come through. Let’s HOPE we solved the problem. Let’s HOPE that this was the only one that entered the house. Let’s HOPE that we don’t end up with one in our bed. And truly, let’s HOPE that there aren’t a bazillion of them underneath the house.
I want it to go on record that I didn’t scream or carry on like a pork chop. I calmly opened the door when Mr. W was transporting it outside on the hoe (I lovingly call him ‘hoe-man’). I have come a LONG way, baby, since I first arrived in Australia. I have truly (well, sorta!) become a Woman of the Bush. ha!
