OK Candy and Mary…..I’m IN.
I’m going to do the block of the week Grandmother’s Choice – Votes for Women quilt with Barbara Brackman starting September 1. Not only am I drawn to these Civil War era quilts, not only is Mr. W a Civil War history fanatic, but I also think, based upon the information shared on last years quilt, it will be a fascinating and great history lesson.
Here’s the link to the 2011 Civil War block of the week site. Apparently Barbara is coming out with a book based upon this quilt and the blog process.
There’s also a flickr group going – INSPIRATION CITY! (I’m Sybil53)
I decided to use the civil war fabrics that I purchased while in Tennessee last year. Most of them are from Jo Morton. I think I have a selection of 63 fat quarters so that should get me started. I’m tentatively planning a trip to the Australasia quilt show in Melbourne in April 2013 so I can top up with period fabrics then, right? 63 probably isn’t QUITE enough variety, right? RIGHT? (come on people…agree with me here….).
Who wants to join us? I’ve been doing the Modern Monday weekly block and really enjoy it so I think this will satisfy my need/desire to do a traditional quilt but will leave me with plenty of time to explore my freeform/wonky/modern/artsy quilt style.
