One of the local quilt groups has a quilt show every 2 years, with proceeds going to the local hospital. I’m not a member of the group but they do accept non-group member quilts into their exhibit. I have hemmed and hawed over whether or not to put some of my quilts into the show.
Part of me thinks to do so is TOOTING YOUR OWN HORN and being all uppity and full of yourself (Lord knows….you don’t want to be too full of yourself) and all ‘look at me!, look at me!’. Another part of me simply wants to share what I’ve done. Still another thinks that it is good to support the community in whatever way you can. And finally, I think……I LOVE going to quilt shows and seeing the work of other quilters and if they didn’t put their quilts in the shows – I wouldn’t have anything to admire.
I’m guessing you know where I’m going with this……I had a good ol’ “get over your damn self” committee meeting (the whole gang was there – ALL the voices!) and WE decided that I’m going to enter quilts into the show.
These are the ones I’m entering:
The other one I might enter – if I think I can get it hand quilted in time – is this one that mom made for me. I’m down to 2 outside borders and since it’s now getting colder, it’s time to pull it out and do some stitching on it each day.
I’m also challenging my small quilt group gals – the ones that are doing the Vignette quilt with me – that in two years, we should all enter our quilts in this particular show. I think that would be a great display….6 or 7 of the same pattern, everyone with their own spin on it with color selection and arrangement.
