I haven’t given up on this quilt yet. Something that I do has got to make it more interesting, right?
So, I wrapped it up in eucalyptus bark from my favorite tree in the entire world. This tree loses it’s bark every spring and it is so incredibly gorgeous to watch.
I gathered the bark. I wrapped it up in the quilt. I soaked it in salt water. I let it sit out in the rain. I let it dry. I unrolled it and let it dry for 2 weeks on the line and…..DANG IT ALL…..there is hardly a difference. Perhaps a little bit more aging but not much. And then, when I washed it – it pretty much all washed out.
I think I need to do some research on how to hold onto the discoloration. Or figure out this ‘mordant’ business. It all seems so complicated. My ‘wing it’ method isn’t working.
Anyway, it’s time for the big guns. I’m going to try rust next. Mr. W has a pile of rusting tin back near the BIG BOY shed that has my name written all over it. Time to put the gloves on and go digging. If this doesn’t work – I’m going to bury this sucker for 6 months and see what happens. I’ll show IT who the boss is…..
