I swear……I’m quilting as fast as I can! This week I feel like I’m struggling to keep up though. With a quick & unexpected trip to Sydney over the weekend – I had to fit my FMQ practice into alternate days. And this weeks’ assignment seemed HUGE to me.
Leah’s tutorials are excellent. If you aren’t watching them or following her blog, you should be if you have any interest at all in learning FMQ – or simply if you want to be inspired and motivated. Her tutorials are seriously good yet relaxed. She’s quite the motivationalist (is that a word?) also. (And I’m not just blowing smoke up her backside.)
This week – we did straight line quilting, outline quilting and stitch in the ditch quilting – all with the free motion technique NOT using a walking foot.
I was off and running with the straight line quilting……see how well I did? I selected bright orange thread so it would show up.
Then, feeling all smug and confident, I moved on to outline stitching. See how well I DIDN’T do? And, isn’t this about the most ugly fabric you can imagine quilting? I threw in a few spirals for practice (and I’m still not any better at them).
Here’s the back of this piece. I’m not exactly pleased with the stitch length – but practice, practice, practice…right?
The next day, I went back to the swirly leaves on the cheater cloth – just to finish it up. I also did a little (fake) stitch in the ditch on the cheater cloth. I planned to do some real stitch-in-the-ditch but ran out of time. I’m prepped and ready for the next assignment.
