SewCalGal’s 2012 FMQ challenge post (see link on right side of screen) with youtube lesson from Frances Moore involved leaves – heart-shaped leaves. I spent one evening doodling in front of the TV and then did my first pass with the machine. Not very pretty. Today I tried it again (day 2) and I’m much better. Luckily, I have 3 more weeks to practice on this lesson.
Here are the first two practice sessions:
And now…..my tips:
Take your shoes off and do it bare foot. (Quilting, that is!)
BREATHE (It’s hard to stitch when you hold your breath because when you hold your breath you eventually pass out and fall on the floor and hurt your head and all kinds of bad crap happens.)
Play some chill-out music. Norah Jones worked well for me – Twisted Sister might work for you.
Remember, you are LEARNING. You are not an expert (yet!). (Did you hear that KRIS?)
If your sticky mat doesn’t stick…..run water over it, let it dry and reapply. (Or, perhaps you already knew this because you read the back of the package?)
Drop the dogs (feed dogs). At least for me that worked better than turning my stitch length to zero.
Isacord thread is my friend. No breaks. It’s not cotton but I don’t care.
Now I’m off to practice doing the 2nd leaf motif…..it has a swirl in the corner. So far, I haven’t been able to master it on paper let alone on fabric. There will be more doodling in my future. In order to save trees, I’m going to find me a small dry erase board to doodle on.
