Otherwise known as Grandmother’s Choice 16, 17 & 18. This is from the F*R*E*E block of the week program by Barbara Brackman.
What a pain in the backside these blocks have become. Who had the bright idea to do TWO sets? If I wasn’t nearly a third of the way through this program – I’d be a quitter like my friends Candy and Mary.
I am NOT a precision piecer and I really think you need to be a precision piecer to enjoy making these PAIN IN THE A$$ blocks.
OK – I feel better now.
Oh, and this is my first Wednesday WIP (work in progress) post that Freshly Pieced is organizing (see the link on the sidebar?). Be sure to check out her patterns – I especially like the kissing fish pattern and think I’ll need to make that for the next baby in the family.
I have a lot more WIPs to share with you on future Wednesdays. Thanks for coordinating this, Lee – I’m looking forward to seeing all the things others have in progress.
Block 16: Capital T – Sarah Pellet
Block 17: Mother’s Delight
Block 18: Cheyenne

I didn’t read past the post and knew exactly what you were referring to lol. I don’t find squeezing a square peg in a round hole much fun. And that’s what he seems to do-makes nine inch blocks into eight inch blocks. In so over those blocks. lmao
Post title**
ha! I would quit too if Mr. W wasn’t such a rabid Civil War buff – I’ve never met anyone who has read more Civil War books than him – and he’s Australian!
As I’m making the quilt for him, I’ll just keep plugging along on it – but trust me……I’ll also keep bitching about it.
aaaawwwwww…be still my heart!
The Capital T and the Cheyenne would be the easiest of the 3… Now I might have to say a few curse words myself if I were to try and make the dreadful looking Mothers Delight!!! ack!!
Yeah – they were the easiest of the 3. The Mother’s Delight I converted to a paper pieced block and it actually wan’t too bad. It was just frustrating that I couldn’t get the original templates to print out the correct size. Ultimately, probably not BB’s fault – but sometimes a girl just has to bitch and moan.
Come over to the dark side…..
Life is too short to make quilts you don’t like. This is supposed to be fun..not stressful! Make a couple of nice wallhangings and call it a day!
You are a bad influence, Candy! I bet you’d lure me to the dark side with rich dark chocolate treats without guilt, wouldn’t you?
Like I said to Mary – if it wasn’t for Mr. W’s obsession (passion) for the Civil War – I probably wouldn’t continue. Crazy me……I’m starting to think about doing the cutting and piecing of the sashing strips….nuts, I know.
Dark chocolate and dry red.
I am a bad influence, I know that. As I always tell Mary…misery loves company! I admire your tenacity…as crazy as it may seem.
My oldest daughter is a history nut- world war history in particular. Very unusual for a girl. In middle school the history teachers fought over her. Offered up trades like they do in baseball. I’ll give you so and so and a student to be named later. lol. It was quite funny.
